Outside Online: A New Podcast Explores Sex in the Great Outdoors

A new biweekly podcast called Sex Outside, which launched February 11th 2021, examines how outdoor pursuits, sex, gender, and bodies flow into each other. It’s the brainchild of Laura Borichevsky,

“Talking about sex doesn’t come naturally to a lot of people, but thinking about the way it intersects with the outdoors just might be a good place to start,” Borichevsky says in the podcast intro.

mindbodygreen: Why Getting Outdoors is the Ultimate Sex Ed

The connection between sex and nature is expansive.

It doesn't take much digging to find that plants and animals, like us, exhibit a wide range of sexual behaviors and have their own identities and turn-ons. For instance, did you know that garter snakes have group sex in something called a "mating ball," or that jellyfish reproduce both sexually and asexually throughout their life, depending on their developmental stage? This barely scratches the surface of the unique (and sometimes quirky) sexual escapades going on in nature.

Gear junkie Podcast: Sex Outside

Spending time outdoors is a common prescription to reconnect, destress, and add a little animal to your routine. So it’s no surprise time outside can also provide the perfect backdrop for sex — connection, excitement, and primal nature.

But like the outdoors, conversations about sex are both complex and nuanced. It’s more than an act; sex can comprise identity, trauma, uncertainty, and community.

On the “Sex Outside” podcast Laura Borichevsky tackles sex in all its messy, beautiful, complicated forms — and she does it through the lens of the outdoors. It’s both serious and fun, provocative and matter-of-fact.

Giddy: How to have sex while camping

Camping is an opportunity to get closer to nature, but it can also be an excellent time to get closer to a partner. That said, the wilderness presents unique challenges that can prevent you from fully enjoying the experience. When it comes to pitching a tent after you've pitched your tent, preparation might be the sexiest thing.

Inside Hook: A New podcast, and also a thing you can do

Sex is an activity you can do almost anywhere. You could do it in a bed, sure, but you could also do it on a chair or in the kitchen, on the floor or in a hot tub. You could even do it in a moving vehicle. Some of these options are more advisable than others, of course, but the possibilities are just about endless… If you use your imagination, you can have sex pretty much anywhere, including the great outdoors.
